Collage as an art form offers so many symbolic readings. The construction of new forms out of collected bits and pieces echoes the courageous efforts of all refugees fleeing fractured lives to create newly formed lives in new places. This piecing together of paper fragments is also a fitting act that speaks to the intensifying crisis of our environment by breathing life into discarded materials. It can represent our attempts to, out of collected shards, construct identities both personal and communal, to heal by additive process. In the largest sense, collage serves as allegory of our attempts to make whole our world.
This WORLD AS COLLAGE PROJECT was conceived in response to CVRAN’s
