It’s a grim time
no doubt about it
hard to tell though –
the globe’s
maybe of the cosmos
or in crashing unison
a harmony of darkness.

Digging deep in
the black soil
coming faint
like the washed-out footprint
of some small animal
use it up!

  1. Wow, Diane — thanks for sending the new poems. I loved the “dear ancients”. They are mostly quite dark, eh? I am amazed that you write poetry in addition to everything else.

    I looked for images of Jennifer Bartlett’s hospital work, but what I found is not what I remember…


    1. Nothing to be amazed about – we do what we must.
      Re: “dark” – Jack Pulaski suggested Brecht, so I am reading Brecht:

      In the dark times, will there also be singing?
      Yes, there will be singing.
